In June, I had the opportunity to attend the International Agency of Great Lakes Research Annual Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin along a Great Lakes Roadtrip.
Along my route to Milwaukee, I got to stop in several spots along the Lake Huron coast, visit the Gros Cap Bluffs on the southern tip of Lake Superior, and drive along the scenic western coast of Lake Michigan through the Sleeping Bear Dunes.

At the conference, I had the opportunity to network with world-renowned researchers, conservation practitioners, and science communicators all pursuing clean water and lake health in their own unique ways. I also got the chance to interact with participants on the Biinaaagmi Giant Floor Map — one of my favourite parts of my job. Attending the talks and networking brought new inspiration and a renewed passion for the work I am lucky enough to do every day.

In addition to attending the conference, I had the opportunity to explore historic downtown Milwaukee both on foot along the scenic Riverwalk, as well as by Kayak with Milwaukee Riverkeeper Cheryl Nenn and learn more about this Great Lakes coastal hub. Kayaking through the heart of downtown Milwaukee and seeing skyscrapers extend up from the water’s edge is a memory I will never forget.
On my scenic route home, I got to visit Port Stanley on Lake Erie and Confederation boat launch on Lake Ontario.

This road trip was the adventure of a lifetime and I am so grateful for the opportunity to explore the watershed I work to protect every day. Keep an eye out for upcoming blogs about this scenic adventure!
