About the Artist

James Lahey is a Canadian artist with a reputation for large-scale landscapes, still life paintings, his large scale motorcycle works and most recently his “ Made in Canada “ series, which includes large Flag portraits and a series of Canada Geese. Lahey did a BFA at York University, studied art & architecture in Italy, and completed a program in artifact preservation. Lahey has always been a meticulous craftsman – the print for this year’s Swim Drink Fish Gala is a good example. The piece is 6ft tall x 4ft wide, titled “Flight” (Canada Goose, from Made in Canada part 2). The artist depicts the Goose in flight against a bright red background. There are seven other works from the series, each in an edition of 15.

Lahey’s work can be found in numerous public and corporate collections in Canada, the United States and Britain, including: the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, The Rooms in Newfoudland, the Art Gallery of Windsor, the Edmonton Art Gallery, The Nickel Museum, The Beaverbrook Art Gallery in New Brunswick, The Tom Thomson Art Gallery, Hart House, the University of Toronto, Scotiabanlk, CIBC, Heenan Blaikie, McCarthy Tétrault, CitiBank, and AT&T. Earlier this year Lahey became a Swim Drink Fish Ambassador.

Lahey is represented in Vancouver by the Jennifer Kostuik Gallery.
