About the Project
Launched in 2018, Great Lakes Guide is a web platform that connects people to the Great Lakes (greatlakes.guide). The Guide helps more people go to the water more often by making it easier for people to find parks, beaches, trails, and other public spaces. The Guide teaches people where their water comes from and what birds and fish live near them. It promotes Indigenous languages, history, and perspectives. It shows how the north and south, urban and rural, coastal and river communities are connected (by water). Ultimately, Great Lakes Guide helps people take action to protect the places they love.
Our tight-knit team of environmental and communication specialists is looking for a passionate digital marketing specialist to execute our search engine optimization, email marketing, and social media marketing strategies.

Great Lakes Guide is an initiative of Swim Drink Fish, a national charity dedicated to connecting people with water (www.swimdrinkfish.ca).
Search Engine Optimization: Ensure that the site ranks high on search results for key topics and that site traffic is hitting established targets. Tasks include:
help identify topics and keywords for articles and pages on greatlakes.guide
review and optimize content on the site for searchability
contribute design or engineering suggestions that will help to optimize the site for search
Monitor and report on site traffic, user engagement and goal achievements, and provide other analytics services to the team
Social Media Marketing: Cultivate social media networks to build and engage Great Lakes Guide users.
Email Marketing: Create and send regular email communications to engage users and media and build the subscriber list.
Monitor relevant search trends, topics, sites, and influencers to ensure Great Lakes Guide’s strategy doesn’t get stale
Coordinate with members of the Great Lakes Guide team to share ideas, learn from their work, and meet deadlines
Only candidates with these qualifications will be considered for the position:
A minimum of 1 year professional experience in a similar role
Demonstrated understanding of search engine optimization concepts and the ability to translate those concepts into actionable improvements to Great Lakes Guide
Familiarity with standard web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics)
Experience using email marketing software (e.g., Pardot, Mailchimp)
Proven experience executing digital marketing campaigns in the past
An interest in nature and the Great Lakes
Other Beneficial Skills and Experience
Knowledge of Indigenous language(s) and/or culture(s)
Knowledge of photography and design basics
