Digital Content Coordinator - Vancouver
Position Type: 32 hours/week, 12 month contract
Location: Downtown Vancouver
Start Date: February 18, 2019

Starting the position within two years of receiving their post-secondary diploma
Underemployed (employed below their level of education or work part-time)
No more than 30 years of age at the start of the position
Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada
Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations
Not receiving employment insurance during their internship
Available to work for at least six months
About Swim Drink Fish
Swim Drink Fish Canada is a growing charity dedicated to ensuring swimmable, drinkable, fishable water for all.
Our tight-knit team of environmental and communication specialists is looking for a passionate Digital Content Coordinator to help grow our digital community in BC by undertaking key content development, marketing, communication, and design responsibilities. This role will be reporting to, and working closely with the Vancouver Program Manager, to expand our digital reach. A love of water with a natural ability to connect with the public on a personal level is also key.
Duties and responsibilities
Implement communications plan with support from Vancouver Program Manager as developed by Communications Manager
Write, design, and manage online and hardcopy communication pieces
Edit compelling content for print, web, and other online communication
Manage, curate, implement, and evaluate content for the Fraser Riverkeeper’s social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and website
Provide on-site and “from the field” pictures and videos for our social media profiles
Identify and capture engaging stories that illustrate the impact and importance of our work
Assist with monthly blogs and email newsletters to Fraser Riverkeeper’s network of supporters, with support from Vancouver Program Manager
Manage online files and file transfer between databases in online storage and file transfer between database managers and website
Update donor and volunteer databases following outreach events and opportunities
Attend and assist with a series of water-based community outreach events throughout the year (largely summer with some evenings and weekends included) to develop content to educate and engage our online community
Carry out follow up engagement for relationship building with volunteers, supporters, and prospective water stewards including ongoing documentation and communications
Design and develop digital assets for blogs, newsletters, website, and social media
Contribute to, and help maintain, resource book of “tools” for publications (e.g. photos, clip art, computer images) and archives
Improve and maintain website design and operations
**Note: This job may require other responsibilities as assigned by Swim Drink Fish to support the organization in other necessary ways.**
Knowledge and Skills
Only candidates with these qualifications will be considered for the position:
Ability to learn quickly and retain information
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Solid writing and organization abilities
Strong computer skills, including ability to use and troubleshoot basic office technology, Google Suite experience (email, calendar, drive, sites, etc.)
Experience using NationBuilder, Salesforce, or other related CRM software, or a desire and willingness to learn
Demonstrated ability to work well independently as well as effectively with a small team and volunteers
Experience using social media platforms to engage a wide audience
Are based in Metro Vancouver
An interest in nature and the Lower Fraser Watershed
Other Beneficial Skills and Experience
Experience with website design and coding
Experience in non-profit organizations
Knowledge of photography and design basics
A post-secondary degree in environmental sciences, biology, sustainability, communications, graphic design, education, public relations, or a related discipline. This position is interdisciplinary in nature and a demonstrated interested in science communications, whether derived from a science or arts background, is key.
Hours: 32 hours/week. Must be available some evenings and weekends.
Location: Based in Vancouver with possible travel to other communities on the BC coast/lower mainland and within the Fraser River watershed.
